i can't believe this year is already more than half-way through. i'm not gonna lie, i just want it to be over already. ever since january 1, it's been tough.

on the brighter side, some recent developments have me excited.

i had to say goodbye to my '92 camry :/

but in return, i was able to get a '10 corolla :D ...not exactly what i wanted, but i'm not complaining. i named it mr. owl b/c it just looks... smart, ya know?

me and mikkel are working with world vision's college group to provide videos and such. it's still in the very beginning stages, but i'm excited.

i finally finished the 1st draft of what i have been writing.... one day before my deadline! yay. now, weeks of rewriting. yay?

i'm determined to finish at my communitycollege in time for ucla next fall. i was able to walk around ucla's campus the other day. it's humongous. their film department is in its own little corner, though. ugh, i want to go here so bad. we'll see.

next semester (starts aug.31) i'll only be taking two classes; anthro and anthro lab. my anthro class is tues&thurs @6:45 in the morning. yeah... i know.

work has been a mixed bag. some days, it's a lot of fun. and other days... oh goodness.

i need to talk to a transfer counselor at gcc asap!

i've been spending a lot of time at the movies lately... (i'd resize these huge pics, but i'm soo tired right now :|)

B ...it was funny, but i think it was over-hyped. i expected more

A- ...i liked it a lot! although, i thought it was a bit too intense for kiddies to enjoy. like WALL-E, i think UP is more for adults (i didn't like WALL-E, btw)

C ...better than the 1st one, and that's not saying much

A ...it's super! such a fun movie. i haven't enjoyed watching the same movie more than once since The Dark Knight

D+ ...wow, lots of angry people in the theater. i felt like texting during the entire movie :(

C ...the storyline works great in a novel. not so much on the big screen

C+ ...fun movie to watch with a theater full of hyper people. other than that, it's pretty silly. sam raimi, i am not a fan of yours (ever since spiderman 3)

oh boy! we made some new friends while exploring d.c. :) everyone has been so nice!

honestly, after reading the first article assigned to us for hw, i knew i could not do well in this class. so it was a good move... i think.

atleast i will have more time to spend on my remaining classes!

i worked at the elections the other day, flipping through ballots. a lot of the people there were younger than me, and they were complaining about how old they are/feel. geeeesh! we're not that old... i used to think the same way. but i don't care anymore. i'm not on the world's timeline!!

1) i used to be really allergic to fish, but as time went on, i somehow became immune to those allergies. now i love fish :)
2) when i was younger, i use to put coins in my mouth because i wondered what they tastes like :|

have you seen horton hears a who! yet? i LOVE this movie. i saw it in theaters when it first came out and i've been waiting for the dvd ever since. thank you to mariedet for getting it for me :)

you should watch it! i think it's one of the best movies (animated or otherwise) of the year.

to fast or not to fast?

To fast or not to fast? Almost six months ago, a handful of young men decided to stop eating ice cream until the end of the year, after they heard about the ice cream statistic. The statistic is this: Americans spend $20 billion on ice cream every year. Twenty billion dollars. That’s billion, spelled with a B. Now let’s stop and really think about it. How unnecessary is ice cream? Let alone $20,000,000,000 worth of it.

Now try and comprehend this: it would only cost $7 billion to provide clean water and basic sanitation for everyone (everyone in the entire world) for the next ten years. That means it only takes a fraction of what we spend on ice cream in one year to save lives for an entire decade.

How is this just? How is this right? How can we continue to consume ice cream knowing this?? That is what raced through my head when I first heard the ice cream statistic. I was literally sickened. I lost my appetite for ice cream; something completely unheard of if you know me and my passion for Coldstones, Foster Freeze, Baskin Robbins, etc.

Now let’s really break it down and analyze it. Shall we shell out five bucks for a small mocha almond fudge? Or use that money to feed a starving child… Should we buy 2 cartons of Ben&Jerry’s on sale? Or use that money to help build a well where clean water is scarce… I know we earn our money and spend it on necessities. But a lot of the things we buy are completely unnecessary. Especially ice cream.

You may be wondering: how is depriving ourselves of ice cream going to change the world? Well, simply fasting from ice cream won’t make a huge dent in the welfare of their industry. But it does effectively raise awareness. By showing our peers that we refuse to consume an unnecessary indulgence, we are putting the spotlight on where it needs to be: helping those in need. It’s also a helpful reminder to ourselves that there is so much more going on in this world than chocolate mint chip and/or cookies and cream.

So, a group of determined young men decided to go on an ice cream fast. That fast will be over at the end of this month. Looking back at all those times we have declined offers for ice cream and chose to wait outside while out friends walked into a Pinkberry, I can’t help but be extremely proud of this group. These young men decided they could do without ice cream for half a year if it meant it would help solve this social injustice, even in the smallest way.

I encourage you to go on your own personal fast of unnecessary indulgence. For us, it was ice cream. For you, it may be jeans. It might be movies. It could even be cutting down on the seven cups of coffee you have every week. Whatever you choose, it doesn’t have to be forever. But please, take some time to raise awareness about how truly blessed and pampered we are. And shine the light on those who really need a helping hand. Let’s fast to make a difference. Let’s fast to show where our hearts are. Let’s fast to bring justice to this world.

the other day, i woke up around 8:30 in the morning. i got up and did a few things, then i decided to just rest my eyes for a bit. so i get back into bed and close my eyes. 7 HOURS LATER i wake up.

seriously. no joke. i woke up around 4ish pm. i had slept through my health class that day, not to mention the list of things i needed to do. who takes a seven hour nap??!? there is something wrong with my body's sleep system. it's like i'm on european time or something.

speaking of things that are wrong with my body, my hands are (again) all shriveled up from the harsh sanitized water at jamba juice :(

i must be allergic to it or something cause no one else at the store has these reactions to the water. it's gotten so bad that my fingerprints have
burned off. seriously! i have no grip. i can't turn a page :(

speaking of jamba juice, i'm getting less and less hours. and when the weather starts to get cold, it'll mean even fewer days at work. and i need to be saving up! 2nd job, maybe? arrg, i really don't want to have to do that. especially with school and such.

speaking of school, i got an A on my first big math test! i studied like a maniac for it. but now i'm afraid that getting that A has made me overly-confident, and i won't study as hard for the next test.
it's getting harder for me to stay awake during my math class. usually, i open at jamba on those days, and by the time my math class starts, i'm ready to collapse.
plus, i have golf right before math. golfing takes a lot more energy than you would think :(

but i'm hanging in there! by the end of the semester (or before the end), i want to start looking for a 2nd job. i want an office job! it would be a nice change from fake-smiling and hearing blenders all day. (don't get me wrong, i do love jamba. it just gets really tiring after a few years!)

i'm taking three classes this fall: health, golf , and math.

so far, i've only had my health class. my golf and math classes start next week.
health has been okay. we're watching a video about dogs with narcolepsy. it made me sad :(

when i was signing up for classes a few weeks ago, i chose golf because it seemed the least physically demanding. but then i read the ratings for my professor online and she seems like a slave driver :| grrreeeaaattt. i'll try to make it fun!

and math... i haven't taken a math class since my junior year in high school. and that was like, 1989! i'm kind of scared. it's a lot of units and i kind of have to ace this class the first time around.

oh, btw my apple powerbook battery is a big joke. fully charged, it'll power my laptop for about 30 minutes. what's up w/ that?? i want to buy a new battery but all the online reviewers were cursing it.

hello!

today was eventful...

i opened @ jamba with beshu. it was a pretty typical morning. i found out that the jamba @ the americana opens at 9am now! i wish i could open our store @ 9am. but they did change our opening hours from 6am to 7am, so that's kind of nice.

right after work, i zipped off to gcc for my health104 class. my teacher expressed how much he hates it when people are late, so i made sure to get there early... i park in the structure and realize that i locked all my things (including my keys) in my car :(

so i run all over the place, looking for a pay phone. some guy kindly lets me use his cell phone. everyone i call doesn't answer! so i give up. i grab some paper and beg a cop for a pencil so that i have something to take notes with in class.

i get to class and... it's cancelled! so i call triple a or some other car service and they help me out.

then, i wanted to go swimming but that didn't work out. so i went home and slept for a couple of days.

after that, i went to another meeting for the upcoming film project that some of the young ppl of tlcc are putting together for mosaic's film festival. we ironed out some details over starbucks & spam musubi. exciting stuff! the film is about t-shirts! no joke.

i recently participated in a 30 hour famine @ my church, in which we raised funds to fight poverty and hunger in africa. through this experience, our eyes were opened to just how good we have it here (in los angeles) and how blinded we've been to everything that's going on around the world.

we spend so much money on unnecessary things every single day... starbucks, ice cream, dvd's, music, movies, clothes, etc... i know i'm guilty.

and it only takes one dollar to feed a hungry child for an entire day. that equals about $30 a month. most of our cell phone bills are double that.

please take a moment to analyze how you spend your money. take a look at your debit card transactions and see where all your cash is going. all my money was going to expensive restaurants that i didn't need to be eating at :(

but now i spare only $35 a month for a child who really needs it. our help can save lives.

domino's pasta commercial

hhhahahahaha have you seen it?

it's this new domino's commercial for their pasta products... i'm trying to find the video online but so far, no luck.

it's this family in a kitchen and all of a sudden this pasta thing gets up and starts rapping a song about pasta and the family is really freaked out. the mom eventually slaps it with something and then the pasta thing says, "pasta playa' hater"

ohmygoodness, i haven't laughed like that at a commercial in soooo long.

'bunny' funny

anna faris has managed to master the art of playing dumb and being likable at the same time... something jessica simpson has been trying to do for years. faris' 'house bunny' character embodies sweet, ignorant bliss and it actually creates an endearing, kind of charming story.

written by the ladies that brought you 'legally blonde' and other golden-hair-themed films, 'the house bunny' offers lots of laughs (sure, they're mostly dumb-blonde jokes, but they're good ones!) and some heart-warming-ish moments. it's not nearly as smart and sharp as 'legally blonde,' but it's still a good time at the movies.

and what's with everyone hating on rumer willis' face? she's not that bad looking! and she does a pretty good job in the pic.

watch this movie for the endless quotes (spoken by faris in her signature out-of-breath voice) that you and your friends will be repeating to break awkward silences. it works for me!

verdict: B+ -- watch it with a dumb friend!
